Walker Goodings
M.Ed., Registered Psychotherapist
I provide counselling services to children, adolescents, and young adults for a wide array of mental health concerns, and furthermore, to overcome personal challenges and promote positive mental-health and well-being.
I advocate for a holistic approach to therapy that can be readily adaptable to a given client, as to ensure that we are utilizing techniques which suit the unique individual client. Specifically, my approach to therapy includes elements of Cognitive-Behavioural therapy with a backdrop of Person-Centered Counselling. Within this, I strive to facilitate a psychological climate characterized by authenticity, unconditional positive regard, and empathic understanding. This should ideally serve to construct a “safe space” for clients wherein they can feel comfortable discussing personal dilemmas and challenges, working alongside myself to identify dysfunctional thought patterns, and to ultimately replace these cognitions with more mature and functionally productive cognitions. My approach to therapy is collaborative and highly dependent on supporting each unique individual client and understanding their personal journey. I believe everyone has the capacity for self-understanding, and can replace old dysfunctional behaviours with new effective behaviours that promote impulse control, coping, satisfying reciprocating relationships, and good mental and physical health.
